If an alien were to watch TV an evenings worth of TV, I think he would find that earth is a very interesting place and that we consume a lot to products. I think he would find that people need to be constantly entertained.



If I were going to choose one person to speak on behalf of my school before a community group or at a local council meeting, I would chose students from student council and teachers. I would chose these people because then you would get a students point of view as well as a teacher point of view about the school. I would chose these students to speak on behalf of the school because the know the most about what is happening in terms of events at the school.

When I look around the room the product names, logos and advertisements I see are:Microsoft XP, Compaq, IBM, Tattoo clothing, HP printers, Exco clothing, Department of Education, American Eagle clothing, Columbia clothing and glasses, Sony camera, and Canon camera, and OFF lotion.


If I were going to pitch these products, the ones I would sell to female are:American Eagle Clothing, Tattoo Clothing, Exco Clothing, Cloumbia clothing and glasses, HP Printers, Sony camera, Canon Camera, and OFF lotion.


If I were going to pitch these products, the ones I would sell to males are:Microsoft XP, Compaq, American Eagle Clothing, Cloumbia Clothing, Sont Cameras, Canon Cameras, Exco Clothing, and HP Printers.



The products I would sell to adults are:Mircosoft XP, Compaq, IBM, HP Printers, Department of Education, Columbia Clothing, Sony Camera, Canon Camera, and OFF lotion.


The products I would sell to teenagers are: American Eagle Clothing, Exco Clothing, Tattoo Clothing, Sony Cameras, Canon Cameras, and Microsoft XP.


I think it would be hard to go somewhere that is completely advertisement free. Everywhere you go there are advertisements even when you do realize it.

I find it difficult to see myself selling a product, but if I were going to be in an advertisement for a product I think it would be for clothing. I think many younger people could advertise clothing, beacause they are they people that start trends. I think that many teenage girls would like to sell clothing.

If you see advertisements for clothing most of time it is younger poeple selling the clothes. I think that this is what I would sell because I love clothes.

If sold the following products I would advertise them in these following venues:
Beer: I would put this ad on TV during sports games and on sport stations.
Luxury Cars: I would put ads in car magazines and on wesites about/sell cars.
Toys: I would put ads on TV during kids shows and cartoons, as well as on kids game websites. I would also put ads in parent magazines.
Designer Jeans: I would put ads in fashion magazines and on fashion and clothing webistes, as well as store wesites.
Shampoo: I would put it on TV anytime during the day. I would put it on nation wide channels so that more people would see it. I would also advertise in saloons and hair magazines.
Secerity Alarms: I would advertise this product during late night TV shows.





I have bought something I have seen in an advertisment in the past because of the advertisement. I have bought new products that I have seen on TV, such as food and clothing.

An advertisement on TV that I like right now is....

I reason I like this commerical right now is beacuse it is funny or overly annoying.

An advertisement that is on TV right now that I find annoying are some of the Dairy Queen Commericals. I couldn't find a video of the right one, but the reason I find it annoying is beacuse they play it too much and it was not funny.

Gender Protrayal Guidelines

In this ad for Lee Jeans, both men and women are being sexually exploited. In the series of pictures both men and women's bodies are being used to sell the jeans. This is an advertisement that took using sexualization too far, in hopes of selling their product.
The advertisers should not have shown as much as they did. If they wanted to follow the guidelines they should not over sexualize their advertisements.

I found this ad to be offensive and it did not make me want to buy their jeans. I think many others would feel the same way, especially parents with young children who may see this ad.

This ad for Big Red gum does not show both men and women as being decision makers when buying the product. This ad is more directed towards men. This ad shows the man having more authority. This advertisement also shows irrelevant associations with sexulization. The advertisers showed unnecessary sexual exploitation, women's bodies have nothing to do with selling gum. If the advertisers wanted to follow the Gender Portrayal Guidelines they should not show the man with more authority than the woman and they should not sexualize the woman to sell their product.

I personally was not offended by this ad, but it also didn't make me want to buy their product.

This advertisement for BeeFeater's Gin shows men with authority. This ad shows men in a dominate role. This ad also shows unnecessary sexual exploitation to sell it's product. A man's body has nothing to do with gin; this ad is using sexualization to sell it's product when it has nothing to do with the product.

I did not find this advertisement offensive; it was also more effective then the last two advertisements.

Bimbos and Himbos

A lot of pressure is put on men and women of all ages, by the media to look a certain way. These video's show the negative affect that the media's pressure has.
I believe that everyone feels some pressure to look a certain way. The media's influence is around us all the time, even when we may not realize it.

Eating disorders are a problem in today's society affecting many people. As the video below showed it affects many people, a large number of them who die. This is a sad statistic that shows just how much of an affect the world's media has on people.
Steroid abuse is also a problem in today's society, with the amount of pressure that is put on athletes to succeed. Many younger athletes see the pros doing steroids and makes them think it is a good idea. It believe that is important that athletes know that you don't need to use steroids to have success. When they use steroids they are not living up to their own potential they are cheating by using drugs.

Media and Gender

This ad shows Male Approval, as well as Objectification. In this ad the man is shown as serious and the woman is shown leaning on the male. The woman is made to look like she needs his approval. Though in this ad both the man and woman are being objectified.

This ad shows Objectification and Dismemberment. This ad shows a women standing on the street in her underwear, but only shows the legs of men in suits going to work. This shows women as sexual objects where as the men are shown as hard working.

This ad shows Irrelevant Sexualization of Women. This ad is using sex appeal to sell it's product, even though sex is not involved in this product. This ad is selling milk, but they are still using sex to sell the product.

Sexual Images and Violence (Part 2)

There is a lot of violence in today's media world, to say that there is too much I am not sure. Many people complain that there is to much violence in many movies and on TV shows, and it is true that the amount of violence has increased over the years, but people chose to watch these shows. Some of the most popular movie and TV shows incorporate violence into there plots and without these many people would stop watching.

Many shows do have to much violence for younger adiences. Childern are the ones who are the most likely to mock the actions they see on TV and in the movies. I believe it is the responsibility of the parents to check what there childern are watching, and if they think that the show is too violent then they can make the choice as wheather or not their child should watch it.

I think that violent or action scences on TV are what make many shows popular and what make people watch.

Sexual Images and Violence (Part 1)

This advertisement for ax spray shows women as sexual objects. This form of advertisement is very popular in today world. Many companies use this form of advertisement because it sells their products. In the case of this ad it shows male viewers that if you use this product women will chase you.
Some commercials take the fact that sexual images sell products a little too far. Many commercials have even been banned due to this fact. This commercial is not one I feel they took things too far, but I have seen others that I feel some companies have.

Violence in Film

In many movies today violence is a main component. Many people believe that violence makes to movie worth watching. In some cases that is true. A lot of people go see movies that have lots of action and violent scenes, beacuse that is what they like to see. I think many people like to go and see violent movies beacuse they are not usually realistic and are not something that happens in their everyday lives.
I think that some action scenes do make the movie better in some cases, but the movie also needs a plot. If there is just fight scene after fight scene the movie is not as interesting as it could be, it just seems to be alot of pointless fighting.
In many movies violence is the way the conflict is resolved, without violence I don't think many movies would make sense in the end.
Some movies could be made and still have a lot of fast pace action and not as much violence, but I don't believe that they would be nearly as popular as a movie with many different action sequences.

Here is the trailer of the movie "The Bourne Ultimatum." This movie has many violent scenes, but that is what makes this movie so great. This is a movie that wouldn't be the same without violence. In this movie violence is used to solve the conflicts within the plot.

Topics for Promotional Video

The focus area for my promotional video for Blackville School would be the High School.
In my video I would include a mixture of images, video and testimonial from students.
In my video I would talk about and show the different courses offered in High School. I would also highlight the different after school activities offered to high school students.
Some aspects I liked about the video I watched in my past blog entry were that the video had music and lots of video footage. I also liked how the video showed different aspects of the school not just what happens in the classroom, but also many of the extracurricular activities that happen at that school.

University Promotional Video

This is a promotional video of Birmingham City University.
I liked how this video showed all the different buildings that are located on the university's campus as well as off campus. I also liked how they used music through out the video, but would have liked it more if they had used more than one song. This video did a great job of showing appealing images of the university and what life is like there.

This video's target audience is students entering university. More specifically it is targeted towards people who want to enter into arts, fine arts and nursing; as well as people who want to live on campus. In this video they showed many fine arts and nursing buildings, but not science or math buildings. This video showed many of the extracurricular activities that the university offers. The promotion also was targeted at students with children and need child care.

The people who made this video were trying to send the message that you should come to their school. They conveyed this by showing the viewer all they had to offer new students and all the benefits that are included with choosing this school.

This video is persuasive by using many appealing images and by showing the positive qualities that the university has to offer.

Animation for Adults

Adult cartoons are very popular into today's media culture. I myself watch ones like The Simpson's and Family Guy. The reason I like these cartoons are because they are humorous and are on TV all the time. These are not like a lot of TV series that you have to watch every week to know what it happening.

Many adult cartoons are criticized for their content, but I think that is what makes many people watch. Some episodes may have content that would offend some cultures or religions, but people should also remember that it is a joke and should not be taken seriously. I personally have never been offend by any of the content on these shows, but at times I could see how some people would be.

Many parents do not let their children watch shows such as The Simpson's and Family Guy due to a lot of it's content. Some episodes are a little inappropriate for younger audience, but a parent who decides to let their children watch these shows could watch them first to see if they are appropriate. In my opinion many episodes have gone to far in their content to allow younger children to watch them.

Ever since adult cartoons came out in the 1990's they have been continuing to grow in popularity and I believe that they will continue to do so.

Cartoons from the 1920-1940

After watching some cartoons from the 1920-1940's today, some of the things I found interesting were, that the older cartoons didn't have any words, just music. I found the older ones were more like a story book, than the cartoons you see on TV today.

The cartoons from the 1920 to the 1940's used humour, the same as many cartoons today. The cartoons from then also used music to help animate the storyline, music is still used in cartoons today as a tool in helping the story come across to the audience.

Something that I was surprised to learn about cartoons today, was when the first coloured cartoon came out. I didn't realize that it came out as early as the 1930's.

Cartoons are still a very big part of the media world today. Cartoons are not just used as a TV show, but also a form of advertisement. Many companies use cartoons in their ad campaigns because they know how much the general public likes them.I think that cartoons are still so popular in today's world because they can reach a big range of age groups and demographics.

I grew up watching Disney cartoons and after watching the cartoons from the 30's and 40's I realized that these are some of the cartoons I watched. I have watched movies such as Snow White, which was the first feature length cartoon ever made, it came out in the 1930's.
I think people today would still like many of these cartoons. Some people may be bothered by the lack of colour, but many kids and adults still like the old Disney cartoons as well as many others.

FatKat Animation

FatKat Animation is an animation studio, which works in the media and communication industry. Before researching FatKat, this was a company that I did not know anything about. Some things I learned are that FatKat Animation is owned and operated by Gene Fowler. Fowler started the company in Halifax, Nova Scotia but later moved to his home town of Miramichi, New Brunswick. FatKat has worked on many TV shows such as Happy Tree Friends, Caillou, Family Guy, and Odd Job Jack. FatKat has also worked on commercials for companies such as I Can't Believe it's Not Butter!, Pepsi, Microsoft, and Toyota.
FatKat Animation is a company that is ever growing. It continues to grow in employees and is the fastest growing animation studio in Canada; as well as the largest animation studio in Atlantic Canada.

FatKat Animation has a blog http://fatkatanimation.blogspot.com/ which is very eye catching. This blog has a great header which is full of colour. I also like the blogs layout and their entries. I like how they show different clips and pictures that they have created. There wasn't really much I disliked about this blog.

My Role

If I were going to star in a TV show or movie I don't think I would star as an actor. I would probably be doing something behind the scenes, not acting. I love movies and think it would be amazing to work on a movie set. I would help build sets and make costumes. I think this is what I would be best at on a movie or TV set.

My Favourite Media

I have many favourite types of media, such as movies, TV, and magazines. When I watch TV I watch comedies or mystery suspense shows. They are both very different, but I think that is why I like them. Comedies are always good, because they make you laugh, are light hearted and you don't have to pay consent attention. I like mystery and suspense shows because they are interesting and keep you thinking.

As for movies, there probably isn't a genre that I wouldn't watch. Some people may say movies as a waste of time (and some are), but I think that if you can find a great movie, it is like seeing a story come to life.

I also enjoy reading magazines. I like magazines that have interesting articles, about a wide variety of topics, anything from fashion to sports.

These are just of few of the types of media that I enjoy.

Conflict Resolution

In the past week I have watched the show Criminal Minds. The conflict in this show was the FBI team was trying to find I serial killer, The Reaper, that has been on the loose for years. FBI agents, Hochner, Rossi, Reid, Prentiss, and Morgan,went to Boston is search of the killer. Agent Aaron Hochner, has been searching for The Reaper for years and has never caught him. The FBI agents in this show were different ages and races.

Violence was a main topic in the show in trying to catch the killer. The characters that most used violence where the FBI agents and the killer. Though the conflict in this show never resolved.

Chararcters in Televison

A show I watch regularly is Grey's Anatomy. The main characters are Meredith Grey, Dereck Shepherd, Izzy Stevens, George O'Malley, Christina Yang, and Miranda Bailey. The shows main characters are all surgeons who work at a hospital in Seattle. The characters vary in positions from inters to an attending.The main characters are a mix of races and genders.
The show is a medical drama. The show puts the main characters in a place that they want to be hero's, but also have their own problems to deal with as well.

My Favourite Personalities

I have many favourite personalities that come from everywhere in the entertainment industry. From singer, to talk show hosts, to actors and athletes. The personalities I like the most are ones who have a great sense of humor and seems really down to earth. A talk show host I really find funny is Ellen Degeneres. I don't watch talk shows very often, but Ellen can always make me laugh. Ellen is a comedian who started her own talk show 6 years ago.

A athlete that I think kids came look up to is Sydney Crosby. Being form Nova Scotia (same as Sydney) you feel like you know him. I think he is a good role model for kids to look up to. I know my little brother does. Sydney Crosby is a hockey player is the NHL and is know for being one of the greatest hockey players of our time. Last year he was made made the youngest NHL's team captain.
